Live from the United Nations at the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference (NPT RevCon).

Tuesday August 16th, 10am NZT on Zoom. Register for the session here on Event Brite (and to receive the Zoom link).

This month at the United Nations, the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) is having its Review Conference (held every five years). This particular conference has been postponed since 2020 due to the ongoing Covid pandemic. The 1968 NPT is a very important part of the legal architecture governing nuclear weapons, but it is not without its issues. This Review Conference is particularly interesting and challenging due to the ongoing situation in Ukraine and the fact that the Nuclear Weapon States are all modernising their arsenals. It is also the first time a Review Conference has been held since the new Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons entered into force.

Come and join us for our Disarm Kōrero #13 where we have two special guest speakers giving us updates directly from the conference:

  • Dr Anna Hood, Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland Law School and Civil Society Participant to the New Zealand Delegation to the NPT RevCon
  • Dr Rebecca Dudley, International Humanitarian Law Advisor to the NZ Red Cross

We'll be hearing updates from the conference directly from these two disarmament experts. As always, our Disarm Kōrero sessions are designed to be a discussion opportunity, so do come along with your questions and comments, or equally you're welcome to just tune in to listen. We look forward to seeing you there! Tuesday August 16th, 10am NZT on Zoom. Register for the session here on Event Brite. We're delighted to be co-hosting this session with the NZ Red Cross.
