This week on Friday, UCDisarm will be hosting the Aotearoa New Zealand premiere of JARA - Radioactive Patriarchy: Women of Qazaqstan, an independent documentary that follows the stories of six women from a nuclear-affected community in Kazakhstan. It explores topics such as technology-driven and state-sponsored gender-based violence, as well as the social stigma faced by nuclear-test survivors, particularly women.
The website for the film can be found here.
We'll be joined for a Q&A session by none other than the film's director, Aigerim Seitenova, a third-generation survivor of Soviet nuclear testing and co-founder of Atomdyq Sogysqa Qarsy Alda turgan Qazaq (ASQAQ) (Qazaq Nuclear Frontline Coalition).
